The Rules of a Creator’s Life
Here is my project website. As it stands everything is almost done. It’s just missing the final FINAL pictures of my dress working and a blurb to go along with it. I have also purchased my own url - whoisbrigidrose.com - but it takes a few days for the DNS to propagate.
It’s been a while since my last update. I have been a busy bee completing work for my other classes so I could have the last week and a half to focus on my dress and I’m happy to report that I’m almost there. I need to finish sewing the last four LEDs together and then connect all the common grounds. After that I will be attaching the ping sensor to the belt on the dress as well as the power source, then all I have to do are the finishing touches. I’ve decided upon an embroidery pattern and drawn it up on dissolving stabilizer so once I am done connecting everything I can just put the icing on the cake, so to speak. Scans of my embroidery design to come next.
Taking a break from what seems to be an endless amount of image processing to reflect on how I should have done all of this tiny detail work earlier. Can you relate to this?
This last week has been a lot of building and buying. Since web design is not really my strong suit, I purchased a flavors.me account so I could easily make and customize a website in just a couple of weeks. I also have been image processing and finishing the design for my book. Of course, I have also been sewing and buying new items for round two. Dress included, as my attempts to be a full blown seamstress weren’t working out quite as well as I wanted them to.
While digging through my sewing supplies this past week I came across a bunch of old Simplicity sewing patterns that I forgot I had. These particular patterns were my grandmothers and then my mothers and now mine, which makes them decidedly too precious for me to cut into. After a few days of attempting to make a dress from scratch however, I welcomed the revelation that I could just buy a similar pattern and modify it to make it my own! In the midst of all of my last minute fretting I had completely forgotten the kiss method.
Once my pattern arrived in the mail sailing went much more smoothly. Pictures of my progress to come as soon as I can check out a camera that is better then the one of my phone.
Last week I was also planning on going to a development meeting at the Hacktory. Ever since meeting Georgia Gutherie, the director at the Hacktory, I have been very excited to find out how I can get involved with them. The meeting was unfortunately moved to this coming Tuesday however, so I have yet to see how I might be able to help out with them in their quest to become a non profit organization. More details about that to come, for now it’s back to sewing and working on my website.
